The Beginning: Our First House

It's been a lifelong dream of mine to own a home, as I'm sure it is for most, but perhaps it was a little more than that for me; my dream was probably more like an obsession. Having rented for the first ten years of my married life, and four children later, it was sometimes all I could think about. Renting drove me absolutely crazy- white walls and rules. No painting, no pets, no candles, no planting, no smoking (irrelevant to me but it helps my point) and so on. So you would think I'd be all over the home we purchased in November 2011 after 10 long years of waiting, except I haven't been.

You see it got complicated. I got a real job. After working nine or so hours a day it's funny how all I wanted from the world was to come home, eat, be with my babies, have some alone time with my husband and SLEEP. Admittedly there were other, more selfish, complications as well. The house we bought was, poor me, not perfect. This might make you all cry out of pity but it doesn't have five bedrooms, a finished basement, an office, a large kitchen, privacy in our backyard, and freedom to do as we please (HOA). I know, boohoo. To my defense, however, when we purchased our home we had three days to pick it and a limited budget, and for that we did terrific which I was always aware of. But it wasn't the home I always wanted- not quite.

Well I'm over it. I've settled into my job and my new routine. I've decided I like my relatively low mortgage (compared to what I would pay to get everything I want) and so we stay. We live in a fabulously safe community, with great schools, and there are over eight kids in the neighborhood my children's ages. It may be a bit snug for our family of six, especially once they are teenagers, but I think we can make it work and I have devised a plan. This blog is to chronicle that plan of home redesign and decoration.

So thanks for stopping by. I hope you enjoy.
